The Barred Owl

Tonight, when I was walking Yoshi, I heard a Barred Owl. It was fairly close so, even though our walk was almost over, I attempted to walk east back up 37th. The owl sounded like it was in a tree right over there. I say attempted because Yoshi resisted. We have been together awhile now and, if the walk is over, he stops and does not move in the direction I want to go. He weighs about 10 lbs max so I just picked him up and started to walk in the direction of the owl. This was a stupid idea because, even if by the hooting sound I could get fairly close to the owl, there is no way I could see it. Ironically, it could probably see us the whole time. I would have liked to see the Barred Owl but the darkness made that impossible. Yoshi and I turned left on 37th and went home instead.
I am in St. Paul this weekend to spend time with my dad and help him celebrate his birthday. He turns 82 tomorrow. I love being here but it is also a very emotional experience. Today, my sister came over and we had lunch with my dad. Then, she and I did the rounds of the cemeteries. I haven't ever visited my mother's grave before. She is buried at Fort Snelling National Cemetery which is rows upon orderly rows of simple white headstones. It is aesthetically satisfying and mentally sobering at the same time. My mother has a nice view. Her final resting place is on top of a hill that looks, at this point, over open cemetery land. I can't say it was very satisfying to visit my mother's grave but I am glad I went. We also checked on my grandparents' graves. My mom's parents also reside at Fort Snelling. Ann and Eugene are in a more cramped area of the cemetery but they are under a tree. Granted, at this time of the year, the tree is bare. They seemed to be doing we...

99¢ Oranges

Image
I bought a 99¢ orange at SF today. I wasn't sure if I should. They are just oranges after all but I have some bittersweet memories associated, specifically, with these oranges. In addition, they are either the best oranges I have ever had or the worst and it is impossible to tell either until I have taken my first bite. Either they taste sweet and juicy or dry, stringy and bland. The one I bought today ended up being delicious.

Valentine's Day 2017

So, I went to the Arts Bar again tonight after Yoga. I don't have to be @ work until 9 tomorrow and it is Valentine's Day. I can celebrate my relationship with myself if nothing else. Top shelf tequila is $1 off on Tuesdays. I had a beer, a shot of good tequila and listened to some really good live music. While I was there, there was a duo from Minnesota playing. The guitar player was from Lutsen and the fiddle player said he was from Duluth. I loved the electric fiddle. It sounded gorgeous. It is a nice change from the BS.  I thought about walking down there after I left the Arts Bar but came home instead. As usual, my mind makes random connections. Jon would really have liked the music at the Arts Bar tonight. The other thing I thought about as I was typing this was something related to him as well. During the Royals' 2014 World Series run, I would I admit get drunk at the BS.  He did too. He would come over to my apartment and I vaguely recall smoking pot. In the mornin...

Passion Fruit Mousse

Tonight, when I was at the BS, some of us ordered in from Cupini's. I have always wanted to try their food but never have. I got a rather ordinary Veggie Panini and, once I saw it on the menu, I had to try a piece of Passion Fruit Mousse. It was so good. Maybe, it was the passion in the fruit. Maybe, it was just the mention of the word, passion, but it got me thinking about passion. Is that why it is called Passion Fruit?

#Alas

I love my life. I got a text on my way out of work today and, for some reason,  I got excited even though I had no idea what the text would be about. Maybe, it was from the man I love or, perhaps, I had won a million dollars; or even just $1000? No such luck. It was some nice neighbors asking if Yoshi could come over to play with their dogs outside. So, I got home from work, changed clothes and Yoshi and I headed up to his friends' house. Moose, Ladybug and Ellie live there. Walter, the dachshund, was also there. Did I mention people actually own the house? Yoshi and Walter had a great time running around the fenced-in backyard. It's good to for Yoshi to have quality time with other dogs because he lives with three cats and, doubtless, suffers from breed confusion at times.

Special Love Haiku

We met at the bar. He drank Honey and I laughed. We kissed many times.
