That was Then . . .

What happened to the man who humbled himself by coming up to me at the Blarney Stone to apologize?  He approached me as I sat amongst friends and acquaintances, apologized and went back to lean against the bar closer to the door. Before I left, I bought him a beer but I didn't stick around to watch it get delivered. I had to be at work early the next day as it was Sunday. It was February and cold.  I walked home alone in the dark probably a little drunk.  What he did showed courage and integrity which is how I think of him. He is generous as well and also has a gift for being fun.

Baseball and #QAL

I have come to understand that I can only really rely on two things to always be there for me. Notice, I said things. There have really only been two people I could always count on: my parents. Regardless of where I was either physically or mentally, they always listened unconditionally. It is from them that I learned how powerful unconditional love really is. My mother is gone from this world now but I know that, if I called my Dad up, he would be glad to hear from me. He always tells me that I am doing a "good job". Even at age almost 56, that means a lot.      There are, however, two things I can count on to keep me company: one has been around for over a hundred years while the other not nearly so long. That doesn't, however, negate its effectiveness. Tonight, I am listening to a Queen and Adam Lambert (QAL) concert from New York City.  I could be watching the live video but that doesn't work so well with my other summer vice, baseball. I ca...

A Special Sunday with Haiku

I took today off from work. I suppose, at some point, I will miss the money I would have made but I don't think that will be any time soon. I am taking my youngest son and his wife out for brunch to celebrate their respective college graduations. And, tonight, there is #QAL Kansas City. At this exact time, I am still lying in bed and all of my animals are with me on it. They like when I am home with them. I like it too. Simon and I are about to endure another stretch of hot weather but this time we will not be alone and we have AC. Sunday, July 9th August is not far away Live in the moment.

Peregrine Falcons

I read somewhere that you don't see Peregrine Falcons so much as they allow themselves to be seen. Thinking back on my two encounters with them, that might be a valid claim. They both looked me in the eye as they each stood with a songbird clutched in their talons and trapped against the ground. I never saw them on a hike in the woods or on a camping trip. No. I saw them both within two blocks of where I live which is in the middle of a big city.  I don't even know how I knew what they were as I had rarely seen pictures of them. For instance, I have seen so many pictures of red-tailed hawks that, if I ran into one walking down the street, I would know what it is instantly.      Without that type of photographic memory, I still knew the first time one dive-bombed a songbird to the ground in front of me right up on 38th and Pennsylvania, that I was looking at a Peregrine Falcon.
