A Monday Morning Walk with Yoshi

On Monday mornings in nice weather, Yoshi and I go for long walks. Today, while Yoshi smelled bags of garbage and inspected recycling bins, I noticed both vibrantly bold and subtly tinted irises in bloom in every yard it seemed. The early morning sun enhanced the beautiful colors. Hot sunny weather in early May is obviously perfect weather for Irises. I saw lots of peonies in bloom too. I thought of a story told to me by my paternal Grandfather. He and my Grandma had peony bushes in front of their house on the south side. They were directly under the sun porch. He said they bring ants and to avoid that he promptly sheared off the top-he avy blooms as soon as they emerged. I hope my Grandma didn't love those flowers. Every time I see peonies in bloom, I think of my Grandfather's story. I never saw him actually cut the flowers off but, when I see a peony bush, I think of ants and see imaginary lopped off peony blooms str...
