Barred Owl Guessing Game

Tonight, my bedroom windows are open. They often are if it is gorgeous outside which it has been today. This apartment building is very close to the building next to it to the South. That building is on a busy corner and both of these buildings are next to a very busy street on the west side. The two buildings are part of an older neighborhood with older houses and trees and there are hawks and owls around but between the 15-20 feet between these 2 buildings there are no trees only rocks.  However, Saturday night, for the first time ever at night with windows open,  I heard a Barred Owl call another Barred Owl. When I took Yoshi for a last walk before bed last night, it was dark but I looked around to see where the Owl could have been or, possibly, still was. When I heard it, it sounded clear and very close by. I t was probably eyeballing Yoshi as we walked past the small alley. I couldn't see it but I am sure it could see me. Although a Barred Owl is too small, from wha...

Supernatural & Supertramp

I came really late to the "Supernatural" party. It's been on TV since 2005 and I only, recently, started watching previous seasons on Netflix. I am about two-thirds of the way through Season 8. An i nformal, personal goal is to be caught up on all seasons including the 1st half of the current 15th and last season when the final episodes begin to air in real-time  on October 8th. In other words, I better get busy. What I love about " Supernatural"  will be the subject of another blog entry entirely. But, for the purposes of today's blog entry, one of the things I absolutely love about "Supernatural" is its incredibly  good, intuitive use of classic rock music.  Classic Rock isn't a personal favorite of mine but don't even get me started on the use of "Beautiful Loser" by Bob Seger at the beginning of the first episode of Season 6. The song adds perfect context to Dean Winchester going through the motions of an everyday life t...

A mid-September Walk

Tonight, I went for a walk. I did two laps of the "Roanoke Route" ostensibly to take a more holistic approach to my  insomnia which has plagued me, most recently, the last four nights. Actually, I was looking for hawks. Why is it when I deliberately look for them, I never see them? I think it's because beautiful things catch you unawares and they are fleeting and elusive. You can never be truly prepared for the harsh beauty of a Hawk of any sort. We are only mortals after all and I've seen the way Red-tailed Hawks soar. They are not of this world.       Currently, I am trying to hone my amateur urban hawk-watching skills so, recently, I have watched many videos on YouTube about Red-tailed Hawks and Cooper's Hawks both of which can be found in this urban neighborhood. I saw a video today of a Red-tailed hawk. The videographer captured the hawk in perfect lighting. The camera panned down from imperious, laser eyes and the harsh reality of a sh...

#Harmonies

Image
Hand waving aside, I love good harmonies & this Nsync cover of "Sailing" has long been a #guilty pleasure. JC Chasez, the main singer of this song, has an amazing voice. He's also another #Leo.
