A Red-tailed Hawk on Southwest Trafficway

Sunday, I walked home from work which is not that unusual. I do it often. I was walking on the West side of the Trafficway and I was about by my friend, Ellen's, apartment on my left. The grocery store was coming up on my right across the busy street.  In my peripheral vision as I approached the grocery store area across the street to my right, I saw an interesting somewhat out-of-place bird fly out towards the median and alight on top of street light. It came flying out it seemed from behind the back of the grocery store. I stopped and really looked at it. It was a red-tailed hawk and it was looking at something in the distance and to the South. Perhaps, it had spied a late lunch in the distance. The hawk turned it's head Westward briefly and I could see clearly it's imperious, dangerous-beak profile.  Turning back to face South, it jumped lightly in a forward, vertical motion as it's powerful wings lifted it into the air. It flew South directly along the median. Energized by my brush with wildness, I continued North on my way home.
