Life

Depending upon how you look at it, either a lot has happened recently or not much. It's a lot from the standpoint that both things are kind of important and, not much, from the standpoint that these things happen to many people and everyone respectively. I had a pet die and I had a birthday.  Simon is gone. He died on August 16th. On August 22nd, I turned 56. Last year, Jon remembered it was my birthday. I was surprised but, maybe, I shouldn't have been. He is an intelligent man with a good memory.  That was last year.

I am not the only person to have a pet die and everyone alive has a yearly birthday whether it is celebrated or not. It was a nice night on August 22nd so Nathaniel and I took Yoshi over to McCoys and sat on the patio for dinner. We did that for his birthday in April when it was equally nice outside. In April, we sat at the bar and Nathaniel shared his lamb burger with Yoshi. This time, we sat at a table on the patio and Nathaniel fed Yoshi lamb burger tidbits again. Simon used to greet me at the door back when it was just him and me. He would hear my car pull up and his head would pop up in the front window. He was just over a year old then and still kind of scrawny. As I turned off my car, I would see him pop up in the window with his front paws splayed on the ledge in an inverted V shape. He would be looking towards the door which I was not at yet. We lived on a street that was lonely and desolate on those 90 degree nights in the summer of 2012.
