Urban Hawk Observations

I was thinking today about the hawk I couldn't see last week. I was walking home from somewhere and, as I turned the corner from 38th onto Jefferson, I heard a lot of crows so I looked up. I could see a lot of them flying to land in the top of a very tall Oak tree. They were making a lot of noise and I knew it meant that there was probably a hawk in close proximity to them so I stopped and really tried to examine the tops of nearby trees. However, there are still too many leaves on trees and, even if there was a hawk up there somewhere, I wouldn't be able to see it. Maybe, you can't be deliberately looking for them, however. Because, then, you'll never see them? Maybe, looking for hawks is like life and you can never be totally prepared for amazing things? You only realize they were amazing after the fact? What if we tried to live in the moment more? Last week, as I was walking north on Jefferson, I looked up. It was a clear blue October Day. Moving across they sky above me and flying Southeast (possibly migrating) WAS a red-tailed hawk. I think it must be amazing to be able to fly long distances above the world. I had to stop and watch it. It flew alone and unencumbered. I wondered if it was a young hawk on it's first migration. I thought it seemed like it must be lonely.
