Another Power Walk with Yoshi

I never know when the mood for a Power Walk is going to take over my little dog. Today, it did.  Today,  we also saw a fledgling robin practicing flying. But first, a little background; When I am depressed, which is often since I have clinical depression, I like to take Yoshi out early for a quick potty break. He knows my routine and it seems to work for both of us. After we come back in, Yoshi, the cats and I go back to bed until approximately noon. That is my own personal cut-off time for being depressed and unable to get out of bed.  In some ways, I am not a very good depressed person. I can only stay in bed for so long. Yoshi does help with that because he has to go out and, since we live on the 3rd floor of a building, we have to take him for walks.  We can't just let him out in the backyard to putter around at his leisure.  We sat outside for awhile in front. Then, we got busy and went on what I am calling the "Roanoake Route".  He has no concept of c...

Two Hawks & Sheila, Maybe

Yesterday morning, I was depressed and sitting outside in front of the apartment building. I was chatting with a neighbor about the respective leaks in both of our apartments from all the rain. There is a hole somewhere on the roof and the water is funneled down between the walls and leaks in various places in both our apartments. Something made me look up. Something really did. Maybe, it was Sheila? She's been making herself known in freaky ways lately. Straight above me far up in the sky were 2 hawks soaring together but soaring in opposing concentric circles. I said something to the effect of, "There are 2 hawks circling above us".  I can't actually say they were hawks because they were too far away but Red-Tailed Hawks  are the most likely raptor to be flying above an urban area. The guy I was talking with continued on, without pausing to even look up briefly, talking about the leaks and the new apartment management company and how maybe the leaks will finally get...

May 19th Power Walk with Yoshi

Image
Today, when I took Yoshi out for a walk around noon, I was ready for anything he might want to do. By this, I mean I had my contacts in and I was wearing clothes instead of pajamas. I like him to have at least one good walk a day and, when the weather is right, he lets me know and we head out on a Chihuahua version of a Power Walk.  He smells everything and the walks take forever but I happily indulge my sweet little dog.  Today, he went for what my son and I call the "Washington Route". It's a long walk for a small, aging dog and he even chased a squirrel. When he's loving life, his ears are up and he walks briskly along the route. The Valentine Neighborhood is his oyster and he knows it and many neighbors know him and stop to greet him. Also, h e doesn't really chase squirrels so much as make a run at them for the sheer joy of running. Even though he is 11 and his face is increasingly white, he often loves to run for the sheer joy of running. Some days, ...
